Doja Cat’s possible lipedema comments have drawn attention after the singer said she may have been living with an undiagnosed condition for much of her life. In a late-night TikTok, the 30-year-old artist said an “epiphany” led her to believe lipedema could explain long-standing confusion and self-consciousness about her body.
The Paint the Town Red singer said the condition appeared to match the way fat had accumulated in her legs. She said images of people with lipedema looked “exactly” like her own legs.
According to the source text, lipedema is a chronic condition that causes abnormal fat accumulation in the legs and arms. The Cleveland Clinic says it can range from stage one, which may cause pebbling under the skin, to stage four, which can involve severe swelling that makes walking difficult.

Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Dlamini, said she believed she may have been at stage one or stage two. She also said her mother may have the condition, noting that lipedema is known to run in families.
For the singer, the possibility of a diagnosis reframed years of uncertainty about her body. She said she had long assumed the fat around her legs was cellulite, while also wondering why people would point at her or stare.
She described the fat as being concentrated in her thighs, knees, calves, ankles, and buttocks. That, she suggested, may explain proportions she had struggled to understand for years.
Doja Cat also recalled ordering a latex suit for her 2018 Go to Town music video. She said the manufacturers told her that her body measurements “aren’t real.”
At that moment, she suggested, was one of several experiences that left her confused about her body. Now, she believes lipedema may have been a contributing factor.
In 2023, Doja Cat publicly confirmed that she had undergone liposuction. In her latest comments, she said she has also been wearing tights on stage to manage her condition.
She added a warning for people considering similar procedures, saying liposuction and related treatments can be “a slippery slope.”
The singer’s comments have resonated because they connect a possible medical explanation to years of public scrutiny and personal doubt. While she did not say she had received a formal diagnosis, she made clear that the discovery changed how she understands her body and past experiences.
