The Council for Islamic Ideology today ruled that a man divorcing his wife thrice at one time is un-Islamic, adding that ‘this should be made an offense punishable by law’.
The council’s chairman Maulana Sherani said that a man can pronounce one divorce at a time as per the method prescribed by the Shariah. According to the Islamic family law, a man has to divorce the spouse three times before the divorce legally comes into effect.
Sherani further recommended formation of rules and regulations to eliminate sectarianism in the country.
