Quetta International Airport celebrated another momentous milestone by initiating these exclusive flights. The PK-747 aircraft, utilizing the newly established Runway Category-II, accomplished a successful first night landing before departing for Medina with the 145 Hajj pilgrims onboard.
Before this, PK-6133 and PK-6137 flights had transported three hundred Hajj pilgrims to Medina. Formerly, Quetta’s pilgrims had to travel an additional segment to Karachi before proceeding to the holy lands.
Pilots shared high praise for their new experience of landing at night on Quetta Airport’s advanced CAT-II runway.
A spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) underscored the recent enhancements that enabled direct flights from Quetta. The runway has been extended to an impressive 12,000 feet due to recent upgrades, facilitating broader operations. The runway now boasts a state-of-the-art CAT-II airfield lighting system ensuring smooth and dependable operations under diverse weather conditions.
The spokesperson also disclosed that Quetta Airport’s upgraded facilities have allowed wide-bodied aircraft, including the revered Boeing 777 and similar models, to land easily.
