The unresolved murder of Tupac Shakur in 1996 is drawing fresh attention, with speculation increasingly pointing toward Sean “Diddy” Combs. The hiring of a new attorney by Shakur’s family and recent statements from seasoned investigator Sheryl McCollum have rekindled interest in the case.
McCollum, who has investigated Shakur’s death, suggested Combs might be linked not only to Shakur’s fatal shooting but also to a 1994 robbery at Quad Studios in New York City, where Shakur was shot multiple times. “This whole thing to me started in 1994—the first time Tupac is shot,” McCollum stated during an interview with NewsNation.
At the time of the 1994 shooting, Combs was in the studio, accompanied by about 40 people, none of whom were harmed. McCollum highlighted the peculiar nature of the attack, questioning why only Shakur was targeted while Combs and his large entourage remained unscathed. “You ain’t gotta shoot somebody five times to take their jewellery and their money,” she remarked, noting the odd circumstances of the robbery.
Shakur accused Combs, Bad Boy Records and its star artist, Biggie Smalls, of being involved in the attack. After the incident, Shakur noted a lack of concern from those present, which fueled his suspicions, particularly toward Combs, whom he knew personally.
Two years later, Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, an incident that remains unsolved. McCollum reflected on the patterns of the attacks, noting, “Both times that Tupac Shakur is shot, he is trapped in something. He’s trapped in an elevator, and then he’s trapped in a car. There is nowhere to run.” The absence of video footage at both crime scenes further deepens the mystery, suggesting that someone close to Shakur might have known his precise locations during the attacks.
Shakur’s family investigates Diddy’s role
Despite longstanding denials from Combs, including a 2008 statement dismissing any involvement, recent developments have intensified scrutiny. Shakur’s family has engaged attorney Alex Spiro to explore possible connections between Combs and the rapper’s death. This investigation follows charges against former gang leader Duane “Keefe D” Davis for his alleged role in the 1996 shooting, who claimed that Combs had offered him $1 million to kill Shakur.
These allegations are now part of a broader examination of Combs’ past actions, as he faces numerous sexual abuse allegations and accusations of operating a criminal enterprise. The legal and public scrutiny surrounding Combs grows as these cases unfold.
