The Dhabeji pumping station pipeline rupture has disrupted water supply in several parts of Karachi after a major pipeline burst linked to a power breakdown.
A 72-inch-diameter water pipeline ruptured at the Dhabeji Pumping Station, leading to the immediate suspension of water supply to affected areas. The incident occurred after a power outage halted four pumps at the facility.
According to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), pipeline 5 was damaged when the station’s electricity supply was interrupted. As a result, water transmission to multiple neighbourhoods was affected.
Dhabeji Pumping Station Pipeline Rupture: What Happened?
Officials said the latest rupture marks the fourth time in two weeks that the pipeline has broken. Sources attributed repeated damage to the use of substandard materials in earlier repair work.
The disruption once again highlights the vulnerability of Karachi’s water infrastructure to power failures. Sensitive pumping systems depend on a consistent electricity supply to maintain pressure and flow.
A spokesperson for KWSC stated that repair work is underway and is expected to be completed within 24 hours. Water supply will be restored once maintenance is finalised.
Residents in affected areas have frequently experienced water shortages due to power supply interruptions at critical pumping stations.

Authorities have urged citizens to conserve stored water until the normal supply resumes.
The recurring pipeline failures have raised concerns about infrastructure maintenance and the long-term reliability of the city’s water distribution system.
