The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, issued a stark warning to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Friday. He stated that the “anti-army” rhetoric propagated by incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan had transcended politics. It had become a “national security threat.”
Chaudhry began a press conference in Rawalpindi by addressing a “creeping national security threat” that necessitated a military response. He attributed this threat to a “delusional mindset of a delusional person” whose ego had grown significantly. This suggested an apparent reference to Imran Khan. “The narrative that person is pushing is no more about politics now but has become a matter of national security,” he asserted.
The DG ISPR spent considerable time reiterating the Pakistan Armed Forces’ apolitical and inclusive nature. He stated that the military comprises individuals from all ethnicities, languages, religions, and political beliefs. These individuals set aside their personal views when donning the uniform. “We strive and die daily for the people of Pakistan, for the integrity of Pakistan,” he declared. He emphasized that the institution serves the nation, not any political elite.

Chaudhry warned that anyone attacking the armed forces and its leadership out of ego and narcissism would be met with a firm response. “We will also come and fight bare-knuckle; there should be no doubt about that,” he stated. He urged political actors to keep politics away from the military.
He outlined specific harms caused by the rhetoric, chief among them being attempts to create fissures between the public and the armed forces. He argued this was unacceptable. The military stands as the nation’s sole defence against external threats. These include threats like India’s “Hindutva mindset” and internal threats from terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.
“His politics is finished, and his narrative has become a threat to national security. He has turned into a zehni mareez.”

The DG ISPR strongly criticised the political meetings held with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail. He questioned their constitutional and legal basis, referencing Articles 17 and 19 of the Constitution. These articles guarantee freedom of expression and political activity “subject to reasonable restrictions” related to state security and integrity.
“Under which law, constitution, or rules, when you meet a convict, he spins a narrative against the army and its leadership?” he questioned. This implied that such activities, which he alleged build narratives against the state, violate these constitutional safeguards.
