The cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 says filming the sequel felt very different this time. The biggest change came from Meryl Streep, who no longer used Method acting on set.
In an interview with Variety published on February 1, Streep joined Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci to discuss the film’s legacy. The sequel is set for release on May 1.
Hathaway said the most welcome difference was Streep’s lighter approach between takes. During the original 2006 film, Streep stayed in character as Miranda Priestly throughout production.
Hathaway recalled a camera test that instantly took her back in time. “I heard over the radio, ‘Miranda Priestly is walking,’” she said. Streep, already in character, walked down the hallway ahead of her. Hathaway described the moment as surreal and emotional.
“I felt like I was 22 again,” she said. “But it was also very much the present.”
Everybody wants this.

She added that this time, the atmosphere felt far more relaxed. “Thankfully, she didn’t stay in character the entire time,” Hathaway said. “We laughed a lot.”
Why Streep Quit Method Acting
Streep has spoken openly about abandoning Method acting after the first film. In a 2021 interview with Entertainment Weekly, she called the experience exhausting.
“It was horrible,” she said. “I was miserable and depressed in my trailer. That was the last time I ever attempted a Method thing.”
Hathaway admitted she once felt intimidated by Streep. She added that she always felt supported by her co-star.
Blunt shared a similar view in 2023. She described Streep as “amazing and slightly terrifying,” a reputation that helped define Miranda Priestly as one of cinema’s most iconic characters. With the sequel nearing release, the cast says the new film balances nostalgia with a warmer, more collaborative set.
