A militant attack on a police training school in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), claimed the lives of seven police officers. Additionally, 13 were injured. Security forces killed five terrorists, including a suicide bomber, in a fierce gunfight.
The assault, launched at 8:30 p.m., began with a suicide bombing, followed by heavy gunfire. Deputy Superintendent Hafiz Muhammad Adnan reported that police repelled the attackers, securing the facility by late night with reinforcements.
District Headquarters (DHQ) Trauma Centre staff treated the injured, and authorities safely evacuated more than 200 officers and recruits. Security teams secured the nearby Nadra office. Authorities link the attack to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), highlighting the rise in militancy within KP.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the “cowardly” attack, praising the martyred officers for foiling the militants’ plans. “KP police have made unparalleled sacrifices,” he said, vowing continued anti-terrorism efforts. Acting Senate Chairman Syedaal Khan echoed, stating, “The blood of our sentinels will not go in vain.”
The attack follows an October 8 intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan. In that operation, Major Sibtain Haider was martyred, and seven TTP terrorists were killed. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the operation. The Centre for Research and Security Studies reported a 46% surge in violence in Q3 2025. Notably, KP accounted for 71% of 901 fatalities.
