Mexican social media influencer Denisse Reyes, aged 27, tragically passed away due to complications following a liposuction procedure performed at an unauthorized clinic in Chiapas, Mexico.
The New York Post reported that Reyes underwent the surgery on January 26 at the San Pablo Medical Clinic in Tuxtla Gutierrez. Before the procedure, she was administered intravenous medication by Dr. Orlando Gamboa.
Reyes had been active on social media, updating her followers about her recovery post-surgery. However, she experienced a severe adverse reaction to the medication, which ultimately led to cardiac arrest. Her uncle, Ammao Rodriguez, detailed that Reyes began to feel unwell and soon after went into cardiac arrest, prompting the clinic staff to move her from the room urgently.
A friend accompanying Reyes was asked to remain outside the recovery area while the medical team attended to her, later informing the family of her “delicate” condition. Due to the lack of an intensive care unit at San Pablo Medical Clinic, she was transferred to Manzur Hospital. Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, and she died the following Wednesday.
Her eight-year-old son survives Reyes. She reportedly had no pre-existing health conditions. In response to her death, her family is pursuing justice. Rodriguez has been in contact with health authorities in Chiapas and is planning to initiate legal action against the surgeon responsible for the operation.
Rodriguez expressed his desire for accountability, telling the Daily Mail, “May the authorities do justice to Denisse and may the doctor pay in some way for what he did.”
This incident underscores the significant risks associated with undergoing cosmetic procedures at unauthorized facilities and emphasizes the critical importance of ensuring medical providers are qualified and clinics are properly licensed.
