Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif became the centre of controversy at 2 AM after disparaging Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, likening them to rats.
Khawaja Asif’s tweet coincided with an operation where masked personnel, using vehicles, entered Parliament House, switched off the lights, and detained PTI leaders.
On Twitter, Asif specifically targeted Ali Amin Gandapur, mocking his earlier claims of arriving with a Pashtun army and criticizing him for allegedly hiding on the first day of confrontations. Asif implied that political workers should demonstrate courage and willingly face arrest instead of hiding.

The remarks drew sharp criticism from several commentators. Moeed Pirzada lambasted Asif as a primary antagonist in Pakistan’s political strife, linking his actions to the damaging legacy of the Sharif family.
Zubair Niazi lamented the disgrace brought upon parliamentary representatives by individuals like Asif, emphasizing that true democracy respects the electorate’s choice.
Shahid Haq Nawaz expressed dismay at Asif’s role as defence minister during a national crisis, with a provincial chief minister missing and elected representatives being arrested. Nawaz condemned Asif’s divisive comments between Pashtuns and Punjabis, labelling his behaviour as shameful and indecent.
