A catastrophic incident took a deadly toll on a fateful Saturday in the city of Bhalwal, Sargodha district. An LPG cylinder installed in a passenger van carrying 21 people tragically exploded, losing at least seven lives.
Police have reported that approximately 13 other passengers were injured in the sudden, violent blast.
The white Toyota Hiace van had been fitted with a substandard LPG gas cylinder as fuel. It was journeying towards Kot Momin when the devastating event occurred.
Police reports indicate that the explosion was triggered by a gas leak from the improperly installed and poorly constructed LPG cylinder. Immediately following the explosion, the vehicle became engulfed in flames, adding to the horror of the situation.
Aftermath and Persistent Safety Issues
The injured victims were quickly transported to nearby hospitals for immediate medical attention in the wake of the explosion. Meanwhile, the van driver, which a private company owned, had managed to escape from the accident scene and remains at large.
Such tragic incidents are unfortunately not a rarity in Pakistan. Regularly using substandard gas cylinders in passenger vans is a significant issue, largely due to the lack of stringent quality checks and safety regulations. This incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and stricter enforcement of standards to prevent future tragedies of this nature.
