Football legend David Beckham received one of Britain’s highest honours on Tuesday. King Charles III formally knighted the former England captain in an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
The prestigious award recognises Beckham’s outstanding services to football and his philanthropic work over more than two decades.
The 50-year-old former footballer attended the ceremony with his wife, Victoria. During the ancient ritual, the King touched a sword to both of Beckham’s shoulders. Beckham was visibly emotional during the centuries-old tradition. He later smiled for photographers while wearing a formal morning suit and the insignia of a Knight Bachelor.

A source close to the family stated that Beckham had been waiting a long time for this moment and was incredibly proud. The knighthood honours both Beckham’s spectacular football career and his extensive charity work. The East London-born star rose to fame through Manchester United’s legendary “Class of ’92” academy. He became one of the most recognisable athletes in the world.
