Cristiano Ronaldo will feature for the Portugal national team in the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia and Scotland, despite his goalless performance at Euro 2024.
The 39-year-old, who appeared in a record sixth European Championship, retains the support of coach Roberto Martinez after Portugal’s quarter-final exit. “When I decide to leave the national team, I won’t announce it beforehand… Right now, I aim to contribute to the Selecao,” Ronaldo commented during a recent interview with Portuguese television.
Ronaldo, who has scored four goals in as many games this season with Saudi club Al-Nassr, remains a crucial part of Portugal’s attack, especially with Paris Saint-Germain striker Goncalo Ramos out due to an ankle injury.
Amidst changes, veteran defender Pepe has retired from professional football at age 41. Coach Martinez is incorporating fresh talent into the team, highlighted by the addition of 17-year-old Sporting Lisbon winger Geovany Quenda. Chelsea’s left-back Renato Veiga and Lille defender Tiago Santos also join the squad for the Lisbon September 5 and 8 matches.
