A judge in Islamabad court granted two days of physical remand on Azam Swati.
Senator Azam Swati was arrested on a tweet against senior military personnel led to his detention early on Sunday morning.
Shortly after his arrest, he was brought before a local magistrate in Islamabad court.
After listening to the arguments presented by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Swati’s attorneys, Magistrate Waqas Ahmed Raja granted the two days physical remand.
The Federal Investigations Agency had requested that Swati be held in physical custody for eight days, but they were only allowed two days.
During the hearing, the officer in charge of the investigation informed the judge that the senator was taken into custody due to some problematic tweets he had sent out. He said that the FIA is looking for the senator’s cell phone, Twitter account, and other electronic devices.
In addition, he stated that “Azam Swati is confessing that he did the tweet.”
Babar Awan, representing Swati, said that the tweets sent out do not match the requirements of the sections outlined in the initial information report.
After listening to both sides of the debate, the magistrate decided to withhold their decision.
