Karachi: Three-day anti-polio drive kicked off across the country including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta on Monday.
Several hundred thousand children are expected to receive the anti-polio drop during the campaign.
This year six cases of polio have been confirmed in the country. The situation has improved from 2014 when 306 cases were reported, the highest in six years. Last year in 2015, 54 cases were reported in the country.
Health officials claim that malnourishment increases chances of a child catching the crippling polio virus. Children therefore require over 10 doses of the polio vaccine to boost their immunity to a level where cannot be affected by the polio virus.
Pakistan remains among the only three countries of the world affected by the virus.
