The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to conduct a “Connection Camp”—a strategy workshop involving the organization’s key figures—to outline future directions for Pakistan cricket. The event, scheduled for September 22, will feature prominent participants, including Pakistan white ball head coach Gary Kirsten, red ball head coach Jason Gillespie, and other high-ranking officials under the chairmanship of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Key decisions regarding the team’s future will follow the camp’s recommendations. Notably, after submitting a report in July, Kirsten returned to his native country, while Gillespie departed for Australia following issues during the Bangladesh Test series.
Additionally, separate discussions between the red and white ball cricket coaches are expected. Deliberations will also cover potential changes in team leadership for both formats, with significant scrutiny on the captaincy roles.
Recently, Mohammad Rizwan has been identified as a primary candidate for white ball captaincy. The PCB’s recent decision to exclude Babar Azam from leading in the Champions One-Day Cup suggests potential long-term changes in leadership, potentially affecting both the one-day international and T20 formats before the upcoming tour of Australia in November.
Rizwan’s potential leadership across all formats is likely to be a key topic of discussion.
