Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, expressed concerns on Monday about the participation of Afghan nationals in terrorist incidents within Pakistan. He stated this involvement is damaging to regional stability and a deviation from the Doha peace agreement established by the interim Afghan government. These sentiments were conveyed during a visit to Peshawar, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters, where General Munir paid his respects at the Yaadgar-e-Shuhada.
Resilience of Tribal Communities and Counter-Terrorism Efforts
Meeting with tribal elders from the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) of K-P and other notable figures, the army chief lauded the sacrifices and resilience of the tribal communities. They have stood alongside security forces in battling terrorism, enabling the development of a more stable environment conducive to socioeconomic progress. The COAS underscored the commitment of Pakistan to dismantle terrorist networks and guarantee citizen safety, expressing concerns over the safe havens that banned outfits currently have on Afghan soil.
Socioeconomic Development and Resource Potential of K-P Province
General Munir highlighted the potential of NMDs and ongoing initiatives to enhance socio-economic growth under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Recognizing the K-P province’s wealth in mineral reserves and tourism opportunities, the COAS indicated that exploiting these resources could alter the region’s future to benefit its inhabitants. He further underscored the commitment of the Pakistani Army and other law enforcement agencies to eliminate terrorism and the growing threat of narcotics, which are linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The army chief’s visit concluded with a resolve to counter any propaganda against the Pakistan armed forces and a tribute to the sacrifices made by the country’s servicemen.
