Certaim Members of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) have declared Women Protection Bill, which became law in Punjab recently, against Islamic teachings.
The CII met in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Muhammad Khan Sherani earlier today. The meeting discussed Women Protection Bill, recently passed by Punjab Assembly and signed into law by Governor Punjab Malik Rafiq Rajwana.
The council members said, “The bill is contrary to Constitution of Pakistan, therefore, legislation cannot be made on it.”
The Council of Islamic Ideology is a constitutional body that advises the legislature whether or not a certain law is repugnant to Islam.
Its recommendation are not binding on lawmakers.
