U.S. authorities have detained Asif W. Rahman, a senior CIA official, on charges of leaking classified documents detailing potential Israeli attacks on Iran.
The New York Times reports that Rahman, who held a special security clearance, was apprehended by the FBI in Cambodia.
The leaked documents, which surfaced online last month, outlined Israel’s response strategies following Iran’s missile strikes on Israel on October 1st. These strikes involved more than 200 missiles. The documents, crafted by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, contained satellite imagery and detailed plans for potential retaliatory missile attacks.
Access to these documents was restricted to individuals within the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance—comprising the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand—who possess the requisite high-level security clearance.
The Middle East Spectator reported that the documents were obtained from an unidentified source, and there was no direct connection to the leaker. This incident has underscored the ongoing challenges that global security agencies face in safeguarding sensitive information.
