On May 15, 2025, singer Chris Brown, 36, was arrested in Manchester, UK, at approximately 2:00 AM BST outside the Lowry Hotel, a luxury five-star establishment.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest, stating a 36-year-old man was detained on suspicion of grievous bodily harm related to an alleged assault at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district on February 19, 2023. Brown remains in custody as the investigation continues, led by the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.
Music producer Benny Diaw claims Brown violently attacked him without provocation at the nightclub, striking him with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila, punching him multiple times, and kicking him in the neck. Diaw told The Sun he was hospitalised with severe injuries, including a collapsed knee, and was unconscious for about 30 seconds.

In October 2023, Diaw filed a lawsuit against Brown, accusing the artist of causing “severe and lasting injuries” through a “ruthless” assault. Brown has not yet been formally charged under the English and Welsh justice system.
The arrest comes ahead of Brown’s “Breezy Bowl XX Tour,” set to celebrate his 20-year music career with performances in Manchester in June 2025. It remains unclear whether the legal proceedings will disrupt the tour schedule.
Brown’s History of Legal Issues
Brown, known for hits like “Run It” and a Grammy winner, has a documented history of violent incidents. In 2009, he was convicted of felony assault against then-girlfriend Rihanna, an incident that drew widespread attention due to graphic images of her injuries.
