On August 15, 2025, China announced the introduction of the K visa, a new initiative aimed at attracting young foreign talent in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The K visa provides Pakistani graduates, researchers, and professionals with an opportunity to work, study, and collaborate in China. This visa will take effect on October 1, 2025, and is intended to enhance academic and technological connections between Pakistan and China.
The K visa allows:
- Participation in education, science, technology, and cultural exchange activities.
- Easier entry, longer validity, and extended stays compared to other visa types.
- Application without a job offer or a Chinese employer, streamlining access for eligible candidates.
This adds to China’s existing 12 visa categories, including L (tourism) and D (permanent residence). Eligible candidates include:
- Young international STEM professionals.
- Holders of a bachelor’s degree or higher from prestigious institutions.
- Individuals with relevant education or research experience.
China’s Foreign Ministry, Public Security, and overseas embassies will process applications, providing support for residence and stay. The process is designed for efficiency, catering to global talent without the need for employer sponsorship.
