China’s Defence Minister Li Shangfu emphasized the importance of expanding military cooperation between the two nations, including their naval forces, to strengthen regional security.
During a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff Amjad Khan Niazi on Monday, Both countries have a history of conducting joint exercises involving their navies and air forces.
Li Shangfu underscored that the military partnership between China and Pakistan is vital in their bilateral relationship.
According to an announcement on China’s Ministry of National Defence website, Li suggested that the militaries should explore new avenues of collaboration and continuously enhance their capacity to address various risks and challenges to protect the security interests of both nations and the region.
In late April, Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, expressed China’s willingness to establish a closer community with Pakistan. During a separate meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, General Zhang asserted that the Chinese military is prepared to deepen and broaden practical cooperation with Pakistan’s military to promote their mutual relationship and safeguard regional peace and stability.
Furthermore, General Zhang stressed that regardless of international developments, China will continue to prioritize Pakistan in its diplomatic efforts and staunchly support Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, developmental interests, and national dignity.
On his inaugural visit to Pakistan, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang recently met with civil and military leaders.
In a meeting with General Munir, Qin Gang highlighted the importance of the enduring strategic relationship between the two countries and reconfirmed China’s commitment to the timely completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He also applauded Pakistan’s efforts in maintaining regional peace and stability, especially the support of the Pakistan Armed Forces in safeguarding Chinese nationals and projects within Pakistan. The army chief and Foreign Minister Gang also discussed the evolving regional security situation.
