An unusual incident occurred at a zoo in China when a man mistakenly threw his sandals into a chimpanzee’s enclosure.
The man noticed the missing sandal and asked a zoo staffer for help retrieving it.
The 14-year-old chimpanzee began playing with the sandal inside the enclosure, but something unexpected happened.
As seen in a video, the chimpanzee chewed the sandal like a toy.
Suddenly, the chimpanzee threw the sandal back towards the man after he demanded it, surprising onlookers.
The chimpanzee keeper of Dong Dong explained that the ape is very intelligent and often returns lost items to visitors.
This isn’t the first time chimps, the closest species to humans, have thrown objects back to their owners at the zoo.
