In a significant judicial directive, the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Malik Shahzad, has mandated the initiation of contempt of court proceedings after the judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court in Sargodha raised concerns regarding attempts by intelligence agencies to influence judicial matters.
Responding to the reported threats, the Anti-Terrorism Court has issued show-cause notices to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Sargodha and the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), demanding explanations for their actions, which are perceived as undermining the court’s authority.
The court has stipulated that responses to these contempt notices must be submitted by June 27th. Compliance with this directive is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the judicial process.
Additionally, to ensure impartiality and the proper administration of justice in forthcoming cases, the court has ordered these to be assigned to Justice Shahid Karim. This decision underscores the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rule of law in the face of external pressures.
