Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has hailed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the 1,200 Megawatt Chashma-V Nuclear Power Plant as a significant advancement in economic collaboration between Pakistan and China. Addressing attendees at the MoU signing ceremony in Islamabad, the Prime Minister pledged immediate action on the project.
In light of Pakistan’s current economic challenges, the Prime Minister highlighted the $4.8 billion Chinese investment in this project as a testament to the continued trust and faith Chinese companies and investors have in Pakistan. He revealed that the Chinese firms involved had granted a concession of Rs30 billion to Pakistan over two phases in the project’s execution.
The Prime Minister praised China for timely assistance during Pakistan’s negotiations with the IMF to finalize the 9th Review and meet all necessary IMF conditions. Sharif thanked Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar for aiding Pakistan.
He deeply appreciated President Xi Jinping and the Chinese leadership’s generous support to Pakistan. High-ranking officials from Pakistan and China, including Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir, Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and the Chinese Charge d’affaires, Ms. Pang Chunxue, attended the occasion.
