Singer Charlie Puth has publicly asked Elon Musk for answers. A middle-of-the-night SpaceX launch startled his household. The musician shared his concerns directly on the social media platform X early Wednesday. He stated rocket activity from Santa Barbara has grown progressively louder.
“Hi @elonmusk,” Puth wrote in his post. “…these sonic booms have gotten progressively louder since they started launching the rockets in Santa Barbara.” He specifically cited the latest launch around 3 a.m. in Southern California. Puth called it the most disruptive event yet.
“This one at 3 am today felt like 150-160 dB,” the singer detailed. “It violently shook our whole house, and really frightened my pregnant wife.” He concluded with a concerned hope: “I hope they do not get louder :/”
Charlie Puth and his wife, Brooke Sansone, are expecting their first child. The couple married in September 2024. Neither Elon Musk nor SpaceX has issued a public response to the complaint as of reporting.

The launch in question occurred at 3:40 a.m. on December 10. A Falcon 9 rocket carried 27 Starlink satellites into orbit. It launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. SpaceX notes nearby residents may hear sonic booms during launches.
These sounds depend on weather conditions and other atmospheric factors. The company’s website lists Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties as potential impact areas. For context, noise above 120 decibels is considered unsafe by hearing experts.
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association sets this safety threshold. SpaceX has scheduled its next launch from the region for December 14. That launch is also planned for the early morning hours.
