In Saudi Arabia, a 90-year-old man recently captured the country’s attention by celebrating his fifth wedding, making him the oldest groom nationwide.
The man at the centre of this unusual event was Nasser bin Dahaim bin Wahq Al Murshid Al Otaibi, whose nuptials transformed him into an unexpected media darling. His marriage festivities, held in the province of Afif, ignited a wave of interest across social media platforms.
Video footage of the happy couple’s wedding instantly went viral, depicting the groom, then 90 years old, as a victorious and enthusiastic participant. One of the popular videos has his grandson, who says, “Congratulations to my grandfather for this wedding, wishing you a happy married life.”
The Octogenarian’s Views on Marriage
In an interview with Arabiya TV, Al Otaibi discussed his firm conviction in marriage and encouraged singles to get married. He believed that his long life and good health could be traced back to his marriage, which he saw as an act of faith and pride before God. “I urge young people who hesitate to embrace marriage to embrace it for preserving religion and leading a fulfilling life,” the eloquent groom addressed the younger generation.
The nonagenarian further shared his happiness at being newlywed again, emphasizing that marriage is a source of physical comfort and pleasure that old age should not deter. The recent groom stated, “I am happy on my honeymoon. Marriage is physical comfort and pleasures, and old age does not prevent marriage.”
Discussing his family, Al Otaibi revealed that he is the proud father of four children, with one now deceased. Furthermore, he disclosed his ongoing desire to expand his family by having more children, even at his advanced age.
In conclusion, Al Otaibi offered counsel to those reluctant to get married, urging them to follow the Sunnah, or Islamic practices based on the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, to ensure the preservation of their faith. His life is a testament to his belief in the joys and benefits of marriage, regardless of age.
