The Capital Development Authority (CDA) announced the integration of the public transport systems of Islamabad and Rawalpindi with Google Maps, which will allow for the live tracking of electric and metro bus routes. A key component of this initiative is the CDA Mobile App, which aims to enhance urban mobility as part of Pakistan’s “Smart City” and “Digital Pakistan” projects.
Available on Android and iOS, the CDA Mobile App offers:
- Live Tracking: Real-time visibility of Metro and Electric Bus routes and stops.
- Arrival Times: Estimated bus arrival times to minimise wait times.
- Route Planning: Clear navigation and schedules for seamless commuting.
This integration allows commuters to plan journeys efficiently, reducing travel disruptions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s digital transformation goals, improving accessibility for daily passengers. By syncing with Google Maps, the app provides accurate, location-based guidance, helping users navigate the Twin Cities’ public transport network. Despite positive feedback, some users reported issues with route mapping and app performance, prompting CDA to plan updates for improved functionality.
The CDA’s move follows other digital advancements, such as NADRA’s upgraded Pak-ID app (v4.4.3), which streamlines CNIC modifications with biometric verification and secure payments. The app’s success in reducing physical visits to NADRA offices mirrors CDA’s aim to simplify public services through technology.
