Not to be outdone by Timex, Casio has introduced its digital ring watch, the CRW-001-1JR, packed with more features. This new wearable, which marks Casio’s 50th anniversary in the digital watch market, will be available in Japan from December for ¥19,800, roughly $128.
Although the watch’s case is under an inch, Casio has included a retro six-segment LCD screen that displays hours, minutes, and seconds. It also features three buttons, enabling additional functionalities like a date display, time zone checks, and a stopwatch.
The ring is designed with a light for the screen and uses a flashing display for the alarm, avoiding any sound. It runs on a single battery, which Casio says lasts about two years and is easily replaceable. The watch is also waterproof.
Crafted using metal injection moulding, the wearable mirrors the aesthetic of Casio’s classic digital watches. Unlike Timex’s model with a stretchable band, the CRW-001-1JR is fixed at a US size 10.5, although Casio provides spacers for smaller fingers.
Last year, Casio released a series of non-functional ring watches inspired by its iconic designs. This functional model is a significant step up, suggesting we might even see a miniature calculator version for Casio’s 75th anniversary.
