World tennis number one Carlos Alcaraz has ended his coaching partnership with Juan Carlos Ferrero. This brings a close to a seven-year collaboration that reshaped modern men’s tennis.
Alcaraz and Ferrero confirmed the decision on Wednesday. Their journey produced 24 ATP titles and six Grand Slam trophies. Ferrero, a former world number one and the 2003 French Open champion, began coaching Alcaraz when he was 15.
Under Ferrero’s guidance, Alcaraz evolved from a promising clay-court talent into a complete player. He dominates across all surfaces. The partnership helped fast-track his rise to the top of the sport. It established him as one of the defining players of his generation.

In a statement, the 22-year-old Spaniard thanked Ferrero for turning his childhood ambitions into reality. He described their time together as an extraordinary journey on and off the court. He said the separation felt right after they reached the pinnacle of the sport.
Alcaraz closed the season with French Open and US Open titles. He lifted eight trophies overall. He also secured the year-end world number one ranking for the second time in his career. This underlined his consistency at the highest level.
The split comes at a pivotal moment. Alcaraz now targets history at the Australian Open. He hopes to become the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam. The Melbourne major begins on January 18. Alcaraz aims to move beyond the quarter-final stage for the first time after reaching the last eight in the previous two editions.
Ferrero, who worked alongside Samuel Lopez in Alcaraz’s coaching setup, said he would have liked to continue the partnership. He praised Alcaraz’s professionalism and expressed confidence that his former pupil would achieve even greater success in the years ahead.
Alcaraz has not yet announced who will take over as his new coach.
