The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared that candidates will not submit nomination papers for the upcoming local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15.
The candidates who already had submitted nomination papers will be entitled to contest the elections.
The ECP has also announced to conduct of by-elections in constituencies where candidates have passed away after January 15.
The commission also urged individuals to disregard the rumors.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released its decision about the holding of local government elections in the Karachi and Hyderabad divisions on November 22.
On November 15, a five-member bench led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja reserved its decision after hearing the petitions challenging the postponement of the elections.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi president Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, Waseem Akhtar of the MQM, Karachi Administrator and PPP politician Murtaza Wahab, and the Sindh inspector general of police appeared before the commission on November 15.
The election commission has ruled that local government elections would be held in all districts of Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15.
The ECP also instructed the Interior Ministry and IGP Sindh to provide security for the January 15 LG elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.
The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to immediately provide the LG election timetable for Karachi and Hyderabad last week.
