The FIA and Formula 1 greenlit Cadillac as the 11th team for the 2026 season, welcoming the U.S. squad backed by General Motors (GM) and TWG Motorsports.
The Cadillac F1 Team approval finalized just over two months after an in-principle nod flips F1’s earlier rejection of an Andretti-led bid. GM’s deeper commitment tipped the scales, sealing the deal.

The Cadillac F1 Team will roll out with Ferrari-supplied engines, but GM has pledged to craft its power units. It’s a joint venture with Dan Towriss of Andretti Global fame, though Michael Andretti has stepped back. F1 legend Mario Andretti, the 1978 champ, steps in as an adviser. “GM’s push sold it,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, hyping a “positive evolution” for the sport.

F1’s thumbs-up follows months of talks, with Domenicali thanking GM and TWG for their “constructive” vibe. Spurred after Andretti’s 2023 snub, the move adds American flair to 2026’s lineup, a year already pegged for buzz. “We’re thrilled to hit the grid,” a TWG rep said. Will Cadillac shake up F1’s pecking order?
