The Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the transfer of Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, from their Banigala residence to Adiala Jail. The residence had previously been designated as a sub-jail.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb announced the decision on Bushra Bibi’s request for relocation to Adiala Jail from the Bani Gala sub-jail.
Following her conviction in the Toshakhana case, Bushra Bibi was placed under house arrest at the Bani Gala residence. She was arrested on January 31 after an Islamabad accountability court sentenced her and Imran Khan to 14 years in prison.
Bushra Bibi filed a plea nearly a week after her arrest, contesting the status of her residence as a sub-jail and requesting her sentence be served in Adiala Jail.
In March, the Adiala Jail superintendent initially cited ‘security threats’ for not transferring Bushra Bibi to the prison.
Although the IHC suspended their sentences in the Toshakhana case on April 1, she remains detained due to issues in the Iddat case.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has claimed that his wife was poisoned while detained at the Bani Gala sub-jail.
