Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has legally contested her house arrest at the Bani Gala residence. She was designated to serve a 14-year sentence related to the Toshakhana case.
Following a decision by an Accountability Court last month, which also implicated her husband, authorities transformed their Islamabad home into a “sub-jail” on the recommendation of the Adiala jail superintendent. This move came after the court convicted Bushra Bibi and Khan, imposing a substantial fine alongside the jail term and disqualifying Khan from holding public office for a decade.
Seeking Equal Treatment
In her petition, Bushra Bibi expressed her readiness to serve her sentence within the standard confines of Adiala Jail, challenging the fairness of her current “sub-jail” conditions. Due to the presence of unidentified individuals within her residence, now deemed a sub-jail, and argued that this “special treatment” undermines the constitutional principle of equality.
Asserting that the exceptional arrangement contributes to her sense of insecurity and violates her rights, Bushra Bibi has urged the court to revoke the sub-jail designation of her home in the interest of justice and shift her to the ordinary jail premises.
