K-pop star Min Yoon-gi, known as Suga from the world-renowned band BTS, recently expressed a heartfelt farewell to the ARMY before commencing compulsory military service.
According to a statement from BTS’ agency, Big Hit Entertainment, Suga is slated to begin his military duties on September 22nd. The agency requested fans to respect Suga’s privacy during this time and advised against visiting him at his workplace, encouraging fans to instead send him warm wishes in their thoughts.
Before his enlistment, Suga hosted what might be his final live session on the fan platform WeVerse, where he showcased a new haircut and shared his sentiments about the upcoming hiatus. He informed fans that although his show ‘Suchwita’ would be on hold, he had prepared plenty of content to be released during his service period. Suga poignantly mentioned a potential reunion with fans in 2025.
Suga, now 30, is the third BTS member to undertake this duty, following a group hiatus announced last June to fulfil the service requirements. In South Korea, men between 18 and 28 typically must serve in the military for around two years. However, an amendment in 2019 allowed globally successful groups like BTS to postpone their service until 30.
