The BTS comeback concert 2026 marked a historic moment for the global superstars and their fans. On March 21, the seven-member group staged their first full-group performance in four years, drawing an estimated 260,000 fans to Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul.
The free “BTS The Comeback Live Arirang” performance was the group’s first time performing together after all members completed their mandatory military service. The event set a new record as the largest public concert in South Korea’s history.
While only 22,000 ticket holders were allowed inside the fenced area near Gyeongbokgung Palace, hundreds of thousands more gathered at the historic venue to catch a glimpse of the hour-long show.
New Album ‘Arirang’ Celebrates Korean Heritage
Alongside the comeback performance, BTS launched their fifth studio album, “Arirang,” named after Korea’s beloved folk song. The album pays tribute to Korean cultural heritage, a theme that carried throughout the concert.
The members opened the show by walking the historic “King’s Road” ceremonial path, dressed in monochromatic black-and-white ensembles designed by Seoul-based independent label Songzio. The visual homage to Korean tradition added a layer of cultural significance to the highly anticipated return.
British director Hamish Hamilton, known for directing the Super Bowl halftime show, helmed the production. He called the event “among the most challenging” of his career due to the unprecedented lack of stage rehearsal time in a public venue.
Despite the logistical hurdles, the performance went smoothly, delivering the scale and spectacle that fans had been waiting for since the group’s military hiatus began.

The attendance figure of 260,000 reflects not only the group’s enduring popularity but also the cultural significance of their return. Gwanghwamun Square, situated before the historic Gyeongbokgung Palace, served as a symbolic backdrop for a group that has become a cornerstone of modern Korean culture.
With the release of “Arirang” and the successful comeback concert, BTS has reestablished their presence on the global stage. The event demonstrated that after four years, the group’s connection with its audience remains as strong as ever
