Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka has officially parted ways with LIV Golf ahead of the 2026 season, the league confirmed on Tuesday.

Koepka, 35, still had one year remaining on his LIV contract but reached a mutual agreement with the tour to step away following the 2025 campaign. He has not yet said whether he plans to return to the PGA Tour, which he left in June 2022 after signing a reported $100 million deal with LIV Golf.

“We have amicably and mutually agreed that Brooks Koepka will no longer compete in the LIV Golf League following the 2025 season,” LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said. “Brooks is prioritising the needs of his family and spending more time at home.”

A mixed but influential LIV tenure

Koepka’s time with LIV Golf featured both defining moments and visible frustration. His victory at the 2023 PGA Championship proved pivotal, as it gave LIV a major credibility boost while he competed in its 54-hole, no-cut format.

At the same time, Koepka occasionally voiced uncertainty about his future. During one LIV event, he admitted he was fulfilling contractual obligations while keeping his options open.

In a statement released through his representatives, Koepka avoided addressing his next competitive step but expressed gratitude toward LIV leadership, teammates and fans. He emphasised that family considerations shaped his decision and said he remains supportive of the league’s future.

What comes next for Koepka

Koepka remains eligible to compete in all four major championships in 2026 due to his 2023 PGA Championship win. However, PGA Tour regulations typically require former LIV players to sit out for one year following their final LIV appearance. Koepka last competed in August at the LIV Golf Michigan event.

While the PGA Tour could grant an exemption, it offered no indication of its intentions. In a brief statement, the tour acknowledged Koepka’s accomplishments and wished him and his family well.

For now, Koepka’s next move remains uncertain. What is clear is that one of golf’s most accomplished players has entered a transitional phase, with family priorities guiding decisions that could shape the sport’s competitive landscape in the years ahead.
