Britney Spears has revealed that she will never perform in the United States again, sharing the decision in an emotional post on Instagram that immediately sparked global reaction.
The Grammy-winning pop icon made the announcement alongside a striking image of herself seated on a stage near a white piano. In her caption, Spears said the decision stems from “extremely sensitive reasons,” though she chose not to share further details.
“I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons,” Spears wrote. While the statement closed the door on American stages, it opened new possibilities elsewhere. She expressed a strong desire to perform internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom and Australia.
Spears also shared a deeply personal hope of one day performing with one of her sons. She imagined herself seated on a stool, wearing a red rose in her hair, sharing the stage with him abroad. “He’s a huge star, and I’m so humbled to be in his presence,” she wrote, offering a rare glimpse into her life as a mother.
The singer shares two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, with her former husband Kevin Federline. In the same post, Spears said she plans to gift the piano shown in the photo to one of her children, adding an intimate and symbolic touch to her announcement.
Spears also addressed the dance videos she frequently shares online. She explained that dancing plays a vital role in her healing process. She admitted that the videos can feel embarrassing at times, but said movement helped her survive difficult periods in her life. “I walked through the fire to save my life,” she wrote.
The pop star last performed live in October 2018, when she concluded her Piece of Me tour in Austin. She later postponed her planned 2019 Las Vegas residency, Domination, before stepping away from live performances altogether.

Despite her absence from the stage, Spears has continued to release music. In 2022, she collaborated with Elton John on the hit single Hold Me Closer. She followed it in 2023 with Mind Your Business, a collaboration with will.i.am. Speaking to CBS Mornings, will.i.am said the song reflects the struggle of living under constant public scrutiny and the need for privacy.
While fans in the U.S. may feel disappointed by her decision, Spears’ message suggests a future shaped by healing, family, and creative freedom. Her openness continues to resonate with audiences worldwide, as she charts a new chapter on her own terms.
