A policeman was killed while five persons including two children were injured in an explosion at Gawalmandi Chowk area of the provincial capital Quetta earlier yesterday evening.
According to police sources, unknown terrorists had packed improvised explosive device weighing 5 kg with time device in a sleeping bag and had kept it beside the road at the Gawalmandi Chowk which went off when hundreds of people were passing through the area.
The dead body and the injured were shifted to civil hospital.
The deceased policeman was identified as Muhammad Zaman.
The injured were identified as Wali-Ullah s/o Raqeebullah, Rahim s/o Sohbat Khan, Naqeebullah s/o Aminullah, Nadeem and Atif Shehzad.
Law enforcement agencies reached the site and cordoned off the entire area. Further investigation was underway.
The provincial Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti visited the blast area and strongly condemned the incident and ordered the law enforcement agencies to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.
