The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) board authorized the inclusion of the transgender community as beneficiaries on Friday.
In a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety and BISP Chairman Shazia Marri, board members urged Nadra to streamline a mechanism for updating transsexual CNICs.
Marri termed the transgender policy a “landmark achievement” of the current government and asked board members to utilize their “good offices and influence” to mobilize the marginalized population so that most transgender people may benefit.
On Friday, the federal minister described how transgender people could register with BKP and receive Rs7,000.
