The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore has proposed a revised schedule for the Matriculation Annual Examinations 2026, taking into account the holy month of Ramadan.
Under the proposed plan, the Matric exams will begin after the Eid al-Fitr holidays. The board has formally requested approval to start examinations from March 27, 2026. Final dates will be confirmed once the Punjab Board Committee of Chairpersons approves them.
Officials say the adjustment aims to ease the burden on students during Ramadan, which is expected to begin in early March. The board wants to ensure candidates do not sit for major examinations while fasting.
The proposal has drawn mixed reactions from students. Many welcomed the move, calling it considerate and student-friendly. Others, however, voiced concerns over the delay.
Some students suggested starting exams on March 1, followed by a short Eid break. They argue this approach would allow exams to conclude earlier and reduce prolonged academic stress.
Students have also highlighted a potential clash with the Pakistan Super League, which is expected to begin around March 23, 2026. They fear the overlap could create distractions and complicate preparation, especially for those managing travel or examination centres during the tournament period.
The BISE Lahore has not yet responded to these concerns. A final decision is expected after PBCC’s review, which will determine the official Matric examination calendar for 2026.
