Grammy-winning artist Billie Eilish offered candid revelations about her creative process and environmental commitments during a panel discussion at her London merchandise pop-up this week. The 23-year-old singer, currently preparing for her six-night O2 Arena residency as part of the Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour, spoke openly about challenges rarely discussed in the music industry.
Eilish surprised attendees by confessing her struggles with songwriting. “I don’t enjoy writing music,” she admitted. “The physical act makes me feel very frustrated, like I’m dumb. I’m thinking of what I want to say, but I can’t say it, and I feel like I can’t figure out the right chords.” The Ocean Eyes singer described the process as emotionally taxing, often leaving her feeling inadequate despite her global success.

The artist credited her brother and longtime collaborator Finneas O’Connell as her creative anchor. “With a sibling, you can be so honest with each other – and brutal,” Eilish explained. She revealed their working relationship thrives on unfiltered feedback, noting they’ve exchanged harsh creative criticism that would damage most professional partnerships. “That’s just how it goes. We love each other more than we’ll ever be capable of loving anyone else,” she added.

Eilish arrived at the London event via a six-hour train journey from Glasgow, part of her commitment to sustainable touring practices. Addressing climate concerns with her characteristic dark humor, she remarked, “We’re so f****d that we’re all going to be killed by climate change in the next 15 years or so… But we’ve got some great concerts to look forward to!” The singer has implemented numerous eco-friendly measures for her current tour, including minimized air travel and sustainable merchandise production.
