Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday.
In a statement, the State Department’s spokesperson and later Bilawal Bhutto tweeted said the secretary continues to support Pakistan as it recovers from recent floods.
Both leaders hoped for a successful climate-resilient Pakistan conference in January and addressed “the need for tight coordination.”
“The secretary shared condolences for recent terrorist attacks and emphasized U.S. support for Pakistan,” the statement said.
The foreign minister met with American politicians and the Pakistani diaspora in Washington.
The state department said Monday that Pakistan remains a U.S. partner regarding shared concerns, including terrorism in Afghanistan and along the Afghan-Pakistan border.
State Agency Spokesperson Ned Price said the department is following reports that militants seized a counterterrorism center in Bannu and offered condolences to the victims.
The spokesperson requested the attackers to stop all violence, release all hostages, and release the counterterrorism center.
“We have partnered with our Pakistani friends to take on — to help them take on this challenge. We stand ready to assist, whether with this unfolding situation or more broadly,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that terrorist groups in Afghanistan’s Afghan-Pakistan border region threaten Pakistan and possibly other countries and individuals.
“We talk with our Pakistani counterparts regularly.” We’re ready to help them battle threats, added the spokeswoman.
The official stated the U.S. relationship with India and Pakistan is not zero-sum in response to F.M. Bilawal’s comments on PM Modi.
The U.S. has security partnerships with Pakistan and India, a spokeswoman said.
“We value our relationships with our Indian and Pakistani friends. However, we don’t compare these relationships.
“Each of these connections is complicated,” the spokesperson said. “So even as we strengthen our global strategic cooperation with India, we can be truthful with one another.
