PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, in a recent statement, declared that the upcoming general election is primarily a contest between two major parties: his own PPP and the PML-N. He made this assertion while addressing a rally in Balochistan’s Dera Murad Jamali, urging voters to choose the ‘arrow’ symbol of the PPP. This statement follows the PTI’s loss of its ‘bat’ electoral symbol, restricting its candidates to independent status.
Bilawal’s Critique of Political Rivals and Promises for Change
In his address, Bilawal took a direct jab at PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, questioning the wisdom of entrusting the nation’s fate to a thrice-serving prime minister who, according to him, failed to make significant contributions. He contrasted this with the PPP’s inclusive approach and commitment to progress. Bilawal emphasized that while the PML-N’s motive for contesting the polls is to avoid legal consequences, the PPP focuses on serving the public and safeguarding Pakistan’s future.
Asserting his candidacy in Lahore, Bilawal vowed to challenge the PML-N on its home turf, labelling Nawaz Sharif as a coward and underscoring the PML-N’s alleged fear of public backlash. He highlighted the absence of the ‘bat’ in the February 8 election, framing the battle as one between the ‘tiger’ (PML-N) and the ‘arrow’ (PPP).
During his speech, Bilawal also focused on regional issues, promising to complete the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline to address Balochistan’s problems, provided the province votes for the PPP. He voiced strong disapproval of the potential fourth premiership of Nawaz Sharif, proclaiming the people’s refusal to be subjugated and highlighting Balochistan’s dignity and bravery.
Bilawal committed to forming a PPP-led government dedicated to the poor, cautioning against a Nawaz-led administration that he claimed would neglect development and favour the wealthy. His promises included doubling salaries, providing free electricity to the poor, and establishing educational and health institutions across Balochistan. Additionally, he proposed welfare schemes for farmers and youth.
Concluding his address, Bilawal strongly urged the public to support the PPP in the elections, emphasizing the party’s commitment to public welfare and development.
