Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), supported Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s call for a judicial commission to probe the violent events of May 9.
In the National Assembly, Bilawal proposed to the incoming Prime Minister to request that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa lead an investigative commission on the May 9 incidents, emphasizing that all parties, including the PTI, must accept the findings.
Bilawal advocated for a charter of national reconciliation among political factions, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to address the nation’s inflation crisis. He appealed to the opposition to engage in the national political dialogue, highlighting the public’s desire for joint decision-making as evidenced by the election results.
Stressing the need for judicial and electoral reforms, Bilawal invited opposition participation to ensure fairness in future elections, aiming to prevent disputes over election outcomes. He also reiterated the importance of dialogue among political parties to tackle economic challenges and the broader need for a Charter of Reconciliation and Economy.
Bilawal urged lawmakers to address the economic hardships facing the populace, noting the significant increase in the cost of living. He called for a collective effort to steer Pakistan through these difficulties and criticized the opposition for not engaging constructively in policy discussions.
Reflecting on parliamentary conduct, Bilawal criticized the disruptive behaviour during recent sessions and condemned the tradition of censorship. He concluded by emphasizing the electorate’s expectation for leadership to overcome poverty and economic challenges, noting the missed opportunity to hear the Prime Minister’s address due to protests.
