In a move to manage seasonal electricity demand and boost economic growth, the government unveiled the “Bijli Sahulat Package” on Friday for the winter months of December 2024 to February 2025.
The Power Division announced that a special rate of Rs26.07 per unit would apply to any additional electricity used above the historical average consumption. This measure targets the typical drop in electricity demand during the winter, aiming to encourage greater usage by offering lower rates.
This package promises substantial savings for industries, commercial entities, general services, and households, compared to current tariffs.
The government’s statement highlighted its commitment to stimulating industrial and commercial activities to fuel economic growth. Industries exceeding their historical electricity consumption will enjoy discounts ranging from 18% to 37% on the standard tariff rates.
The initiative is designed to motivate industries to expand their production capabilities while benefiting from reduced electricity costs, thereby enhancing their operational efficiency.
Household consumers will also see benefits, as the discounted rates apply to extra electricity used in the winter months. This makes electric heating and other energy-intensive activities more economical compared to using gas.
The plan illustrates the government’s dedication to innovative solutions that balance electricity demand throughout the year and provide economic benefits to consumers.
