The White House has confirmed that Biden would serve a full second term if re-elected.
The Whitehouse spokeswoman expressed confidence that Democrats are now “absolutely” united behind Biden amid party lawmakers engage in pivotal discussions about whether he should continue as the candidate in November.
“We do want to turn the page… When asked about Biden’s perspective on current challenges, we want to get to the other side of this,” stated Karine Jean-Pierre.
“He aims to move forward and unite the party,” she added. “The president is prepared to advance.”
The interesting exchange occurred during a press briefing when Fox News senior correspondence to White House Peter Doocy posed a significant question about President Biden’s future in office.
Doocy: “Does President Biden commit to serving a full second term if reelected?”
Karine Jean-Pierre (KJP), White House Press Secretary: “Yes.”
Doocy: “Thank you. We know the president says that his health is fine, but it’s just his brain and that he’s as sharpest before 8—”
KJP: “He’s joking, by the way. I just want to make sure that that’s out there and people—”
Doocy: “What’s the joke?”
KJP: “—people, people—he was making a lighthearted joke as he was speaking off—”
Doocy: “That’s he’s off his brain?”
KJP: “—he was speaking—he was speaking off the cuff and was making a joke. You know the President. He likes to joke a lot.”
Doocy: “Okay.”
KJP: “He’s the same guy who says, ‘I know I look 40, right?’ So he likes to make jokes.”
Doocy: “That’s the joke?”
KJP: “It is a joke. He—”
Doocy: “Okay.”
KJP: “—I think people laugh when he says it.”
