After facing skepticism for claiming he was offered significant Bollywood roles, actor Imran Abbas received validation at the Los Angeles premiere of “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.” At the event, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali confirmed Imran was considered for a role alongside two other prominent Pakistani actors.
During a discussion with Lilly Singh, Bhansali detailed the casting history of “Heeramandi.” Originally conceived as a film 18 years ago with potential stars like Rekha, Kareena Kapoor, and Rani Mukerji, the casting evolved significantly over the years, including considerations of Pakistani actors Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, and Imran Abbas before the concept transitioned into a series.
Imran Abbas shared a clip from this interview on his Instagram Stories, addressing doubters of his earlier claims. Bhansali explained that during the project’s early stages as a film, it underwent numerous changes before finally being developed into the series that premiered.
Bhansali expressed satisfaction with the final cast of the series, which features renowned talents like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari. These actors align with Bhansali’s vision for the series, which delves into the pre-Independence era of Lahore, exploring the complex lives of courtesans and nawabs.
“Heeramandi” marks Bhansali’s bold foray into digital storytelling, involving an intensive production process lasting nearly three years and over 300 days of filming to capture the director’s renowned cinematic flair.
Looking ahead, Bhansali’s upcoming film “Love and War” generates excitement, especially with the casting of Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal. Fans are particularly eager to see the dynamics between this trio, given their successful collaborations with Bhansali, such as Alia’s role in “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and Ranbir’s in “Saawariya.” The anticipation for this new venture under Bhansali’s creative direction is mounting as audiences prepare for another captivating cinematic experience.
