Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce, stated in 2021 that “the Boat Tail is not just the method of getting to a destination, but the destination itself,” referring to what was then the most expensive new car on the market—a staggering 23 million euros.
With only three units produced, the Boat Tail was tailored to the unique tastes of Rolls-Royce’s top clientele. Each model featured distinct configurations to satisfy its owners. The genesis of this vehicle was the Sweptail—a bespoke model inspired by architectural elements, which marked a significant turning point as more millionaires began requesting personalized cars from Rolls-Royce.
Nautical Inspiration and Elite Clientele
Embracing nautical themes, Rolls-Royce engaged with three customers who were indifferent to the cost, focusing solely on the exclusivity and bespoke nature of the vehicle. While the identities of these buyers remain undisclosed, rumours circulated that Beyoncé and Jay Z owned the first Boat Tail. British media outlet The Telegraph suggested details such as Jay Z’s signature near the Spirit of Ecstasy and Beyoncé’s beside the rear emblem, with both names etched on the engine. The car’s blue hue is said to be inspired by the Cote d’Azur—a frequent destination for the couple.
The Boat Tail Spotted
Recent speculation arose when the Boat Tail was supposedly seen on the streets of Dubai, driven by what some believe to be the famous singer herself. The sighting raised questions about whether the couple owns a residence in Dubai, given their usual bases in Bel-Air, New York, and Malibu.
Regardless of the speculation, the couple could easily afford such a luxury, estimated at around 1.8 billion euros, given their combined fortune. This purchase would be consistent with their history of acquiring high-end Rolls-Royce models, underscoring their status and affinity for exclusive luxury vehicles.
