The BBC has countered a statement from Maryam Nawaz, Senior Leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who asserted that her parathyroid condition could only be treated in the United States and Switzerland.
Maryam Nawaz claimed that the necessary medical treatments were not available in Pakistan, which compelled her to seek treatment abroad.
Contrary to Nawaz’s assertions, a recent BBC report underscored that comprehensive facilities for diagnosing, treating, and surgically intervening in parathyroid disease are readily accessible across major Pakistani cities. Medical experts emphasized that Pakistan is well-equipped with the required resources to manage this condition, eliminating the need for patients to pursue treatments overseas.
The report clarified that the claim regarding the exclusivity of treatment availability in the US and Switzerland was inaccurate. Pakistan’s medical infrastructure is fully capable of handling complex conditions such as parathyroid disease, supported by advanced surgical procedures and medications.
According to healthcare professionals, numerous hospitals in Pakistan offer diagnostic and therapeutic services for parathyroid disease, backed by a wealth of experience from local medical practitioners.
